After my post last week I was interested to see what the trends looked like by occupation group. In the graph below each of the colours shows one of the 9 occupation groups used by ONS and research organisations to categorise jobs in the UK.
There are so many stories here! One thing that sticks out is how Professional Occupations have been very varied in their wage growth, but also in general have not seen the same level of growth as other groups. There are lots of factors at play here, e.g. better paid jobs will not have been lifted by increases in the minimum wage, covid and changing working remote/hybrid working patterns have been more relevant for these jobs than "in person" jobs.
Compared to Professional Occupations, Skilled Tradespeople have seen better percentage increases. Amongst this group, glass and ceramic makers have seen the largest increase with 53%.
